On July 21, the WONTANARA, the world’s first 41,800-ton bidirectional self-unloading vessel independently developed and built by CSSC Chengxi Shipyard Co., Ltd. under China State Shipbuilding Corporation for Rio Tinto Group, was officially delivered.
The vessel sets three world records: the world’s largest deadweight shallow-water transshipment self-unloading ship, the world’s fastest-discharging dedicated self-unloading vessel, and the world’s first bidirectional self-unloading transshipment ship of its tonnage class. The successful delivery of this lead ship marks a pivotal leap for China from follower to frontrunner in the high-end self-unloading transshipment vessel sector.
