Contact UsOn June 20, the "COSCO SHIPPING YANGPU," China’s first domestically built 16,000TEU methanol dual-fuel container ship constructed by Yangzhou COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry, was delivered in Changxing Island, Shanghai. The successful delivery of this vessel marks three historic breakthroughs in the construction of large methanol dual-fuel container ships: "the first order from a domestic shipowner, the first delivery by a domestic shipyard, and the first real-world application of a domestically produced methanol-fueled main engine." This not only signifies China's advancement to the global forefront in this field but also provides a "Chinese solution" for the green and low-carbon transformation of the global shipping industry through "Chinese intelligent manufacturing.
As a flagship project of COSCO SHIPPING Group's green, low-carbon, and intelligent shipping strategy, the vessel has an overall length of 366 meters, a beam of 51 meters, and a maximum container capacity of 16,136 TEUs.
The use of green methanol can reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 120,000 tons per ship annually, equivalent to the carbon sequestration effect of planting 6.7 million trees. Innovative technologies such as a "品"-shaped methanol storage tank design and a freshwater purging system were adopted. Through 163 technical research projects and 31 patented inventions, a comprehensive safety assurance system was established, successfully addressing the safety risks associated with methanol fuel applications.
